The principal of an Arizona high school resigned this week after two teachers were arrested and accused of sexual misconduct with a 17-year-old student, including allegations that one teacher paid the minor for sex.
The scandal at Pueblo High School in Tucson has drawn national attention because one of the accused teachers is the sister of a popular TikTok personality. According to Tucson Police, 27-year-old Brittany Zamora and 28-year-old Jorge Sanchez both taught at the school and are accused of separate incidents of sexual contact with the same male student.
Police say Zamora engaged in sexual conduct with the student multiple times and allegedly paid him money afterward. Sanchez faces similar charges involving the same minor. Both teachers were arrested and booked into Pima County Jail on charges including sexual conduct with a minor.
The principal, whose name has not been publicly released by the district, submitted his resignation days after the arrests became public. Tucson Unified School District officials confirmed the resignation but declined to comment on whether it was voluntary or requested by district leadership.
Parents at Pueblo High School expressed outrage at a hastily scheduled community meeting, demanding to know how two teachers could allegedly prey on the same student without administrators noticing warning signs. Several parents questioned whether proper supervision and oversight were in place.
The case has sparked broader questions about teacher screening and accountability in public schools. Arizona requires background checks for educators, but critics say the system relies too heavily on catching criminal behavior after the fact rather than preventing it.
The student’s family has retained legal counsel and is cooperating with investigators. Police say the investigation remains active and additional charges could be filed as detectives review evidence including text messages and social media communications between the teachers and the victim.
Both Zamora and Sanchez have been placed on administrative leave without pay and are barred from school property. The district has brought in counselors to work with students and staff processing the allegations.
Preliminary hearings for both defendants are scheduled for next month. If convicted on all charges, each faces decades in prison under Arizona’s strict laws governing sexual misconduct between educators and students.
