Prosecution Points Beyond Confessions
Chief Deputy District Attorney Binu Palal acknowledged Davis’s statements — in interviews and a memoir — claiming he handed a gun to someone in the Cadillac’s backseat moments before Shakur was shot. But Palal told jurors they didn’t need to rely solely on those admissions.
Other evidence places the former South Side Compton Crips leader in Las Vegas the night of September 7, 1996, Palal argued. Over two weeks of testimony, multiple witnesses described the violent rivalry between the Crips and Mob Piru gangs that prosecutors say motivated the drive-by shooting.
Defense Attacks Investigation Integrity
Sanft challenged Davis’s credibility and questioned the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s investigation, arguing it suffered from corruption. The defense maintains Davis fabricated his involvement for money and street credibility in a memoir that would never have been published without sensational claims.
Davis has maintained his statements were fiction designed to profit from one of hip-hop’s most notorious unsolved cases. The shooting on the Las Vegas Strip left Shakur, 25, mortally wounded. He died six days later.
