Roommate Gets 60 Years for Stabbing Teen

An Indiana man will spend the next six decades in prison for stabbing his teenage roommate to death during a dispute over where to sleep. The sentence — handed down Friday in Allen Superior Court — closes a case that began with a summer argument that turned deadly in minutes.

Draylon Marquise Crutchfield, 26, was convicted last month of murdering 18-year-old Muhammad A. Williams in their Fort Wayne apartment in July 2025. Judge Fran Gull sentenced Crutchfield to 60 years behind bars. The jury deliberated on one count of murder after prosecutors presented evidence that Crutchfield stabbed Williams an “unknown number of times” during the fatal confrontation.

The Fatal Argument Over Sleeping Space

The incident occurred last summer at the apartment the two men shared. According to court records, the dispute centered on sleeping arrangements — a mundane domestic disagreement that escalated into lethal violence. Williams was just 18 years old when he died from multiple stab wounds.

Authorities from the Allen County Sheriff’s Department arrested Crutchfield following the stabbing. The case proceeded to trial, where a jury of Crutchfield’s peers heard evidence about the confrontation and deliberated on the murder charge.

Six Decades Behind Bars

Judge Gull’s 60-year sentence ensures Crutchfield will likely spend the majority of his remaining years in the Indiana prison system. The sentence reflects the severity of taking a life over a dispute that, by any measure, should have been resolvable without violence.

The case represents another data point in a troubling pattern: arguments between roommates or family members that turn deadly over seemingly trivial disputes. Williams’s age — barely out of high school — underscores the tragedy of a life cut short before it truly began.

Crutchfield will be eligible for sentence modifications under Indiana law, but the 60-year term means he won’t walk free until well into his 80s, assuming he serves the full sentence. The Allen County Sheriff’s Department booking photo shows a young man who will age entirely behind prison walls.
