DHS Requires All Air Travelers to Prove They’ve Watched Three TED Talks Before Boarding Flights

WASHINGTON — The Department of Homeland Security announced Tuesday a comprehensive new screening program that will require all Americans to present proof of having watched at least three TED Talks before being allowed to board domestic flights, effective January 1, 2027.

The initiative, titled “Elevating National Discourse Through Mandatory Inspiration” (ENDTMI), comes after a two-year study concluded that Americans who have not engaged with motivational speaking content pose an “elevated risk of unproductive conversation during flight delays.”

Under the new rules, passengers will be required to present a verified digital certificate showing completion of approved TED Talk viewing. Acceptable topics include innovation, vulnerability, personal growth, reimagining systems, and talks that begin with the phrase “What if I told you.” Talks about actual science or policy will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

“We believe this represents a common-sense approach to ensuring all Americans arrive at their destinations feeling vaguely motivated yet unable to articulate exactly what they learned,” said DHS Secretary Amanda Chen at a press conference. “National security begins with a commitment to eighteen-minute speeches delivered on circular red carpets.”

The Transportation Security Administration will deploy over 4,000 new “Inspiration Verification Officers” at airports nationwide. These officers will be trained to spot fake TED Talk certificates and to quiz passengers on whether the speaker’s “journey” truly resonated with them on a deep level.

Passengers who arrive at the airport without proper documentation will be directed to mandatory viewing kiosks where they must watch approved content before proceeding to their gate. Early reports suggest most major airports are already experiencing lines stretching up to four hours as travelers attempt to absorb lessons about “disruptive paradigm shifts.”

The program is expected to cost $2.3 billion in its first year, funded through a new $15 “Ideas Worth Spreading Fee” added to all domestic tickets.
