Feds Launch Mandatory Morning Wellness App for All

WASHINGTON — The Department of Health and Human Services announced Monday that all Americans will be required to complete a federally mandated “Wellness Check-In” via smartphone app every morning by 9 AM or face escalating penalties under the new National Morning Accountability Act.

The program, which launches January 1st, 2027, requires citizens to photograph their breakfast, log their emotional state on a government-approved scale, and answer three rotating questions about their previous night’s sleep, hydration levels, and “commitment to collective wellbeing.”

“We’ve learned from the pandemic that public health is everyone’s responsibility,” said HHS Secretary Dr. Patricia Fennimore at a press conference. “If you’re not checking in with yourself, how can we check in on the nation’s health? This is about accountability, transparency, and making sure no American falls through the cracks.”

Citizens who miss their morning check-in will receive an automated text reminder. A second missed check-in within 30 days triggers a $50 fine. Three missed check-ins result in mandatory enrollment in a virtual “Wellness Coaching Session” led by certified federal health navigators. Repeat offenders may have their driver’s licenses flagged for “health non-compliance.”

The app, developed by a coalition of Silicon Valley firms at a cost of $4.3 billion, will use AI to analyze breakfast photos for nutritional adequacy. Users who consistently post images of processed foods will receive “nudges” toward healthier options, along with information about nearby farmers markets and whole grain retailers.

Privacy advocates have raised concerns about the data collection, but HHS insists all information will be “anonymized, aggregated, and used solely for the purpose of optimizing national health outcomes and identifying communities in need of additional wellness resources.”

Beta testing begins in Portland, Oregon and Burlington, Vermont next month, with participation strongly encouraged but technically voluntary until the nationwide mandate takes effect.
