Schools Require Digital Wellness Training for Wi-Fi Access

The Department of Education announced Thursday a sweeping new initiative requiring all public school students to complete a minimum of 15 hours of “digital wellness training” before being allowed to access school Wi-Fi networks.

The program, titled “Connect Responsibly: A Framework for Mindful Internet Citizenship,” will teach students proper breathing techniques to use before checking email, mandatory journaling exercises after each social media interaction, and a federally standardized “three-breath pause” before posting any content online.

“We’ve seen the damage that unregulated internet access can do to young minds,” said Education Secretary Patricia Whitmore at a press conference. “This training ensures students approach the digital world with intention, mindfulness, and appropriate government oversight.”

Schools will be required to install biometric authentication systems that monitor students’ heart rates and stress levels. If a student’s pulse exceeds 85 beats per minute while online, the system will automatically disconnect them and redirect to a mandatory five-minute meditation video featuring calming nature sounds and affirmations about digital temperance.

The curriculum includes modules such as “Checking Your Privilege Before Checking Your Phone,” “The Violence of Unmoderated Thoughts,” and “Why Liking Posts Without Reading Them Perpetuates Systemic Harm.” Students must pass a written examination demonstrating “appropriate digital humility” before receiving their personalized Wi-Fi access code.

Parents who wish to opt their children out of the program may do so by submitting a 47-page waiver request, attending a four-hour informational seminar on “The Dangers of Digital Autonomy,” and providing a notarized letter from a licensed therapist confirming the child demonstrates sufficient “pre-existing mindful connectivity.”

The program will be funded through a new 3% tax on all home internet bills, projected to generate $2.8 billion annually. Implementation begins in all public schools by January 2027.
