Federal Government Orders Mandatory Meal Plan System

WASHINGTON — The Department of Health and Human Services announced Tuesday that all Americans will be required to submit their weekly meal plans to a new federal nutrition portal for approval beginning January 1, 2027.

The “MyPlate Compliance Initiative” will require citizens to photograph their planned meals and upload them to HealthTrack.gov at least 72 hours before consumption. A team of federally certified nutritionists will review each submission and either approve the meal or suggest “patriotic alternatives” that better align with the 2027 Dietary Guidelines for Americans.

“For too long, Americans have made food choices based on personal preference, cultural tradition, or what their grandmother taught them,” said HHS Secretary Dr. Patricia Wendell at a press conference. “This dangerous individualism has contributed to our nation’s health crisis. It’s time we trusted the science.”

Citizens who fail to submit meal plans or who consume unapproved foods will face escalating penalties, starting with a $50 fine for first-time offenders and increasing to mandatory nutrition counseling sessions for repeat violations. The department emphasized that enforcement will rely primarily on the honor system, though officials noted that grocery store loyalty card data and smart refrigerator logs may be cross-referenced “in cases of suspected non-compliance.”

The portal will feature a streamlined approval process for meals consisting entirely of approved proteins, vegetables, and whole grains. However, submissions containing red meat, processed foods, or more than 10 grams of added sugar will trigger an automatic 48-hour review period, during which citizens are advised to have backup meal options ready.

“We understand this represents a cultural shift,” Wendell acknowledged. “But sometimes freedom means the freedom from having to make difficult nutritional decisions on your own.”

The initiative has already drawn praise from several nutrition advocacy groups, who called it “a sensible first step” and suggested future expansions could include mandatory exercise logging and sleep schedule submissions.
